Understanding FrontPage Server Extensions

The FrontPage Server Extensions are a set of programs that you can use in your Web site if you create the site using Microsoft FrontPage and publish it on the Faculty Web Server (faculty.nmu.edu/yourid).

Extension Description
Hit counter Keeps track of the number of hits (visitors) to the page. See Adding a hit counter to a page.
Form handler Sends form results to a text file, E-mail address, or database.
Discussion form Allows users to send comments to the page, and displays all comments. For example, you could have an online guest book in which readers could leave comments.
Search form Allows users to search for items in the Web site.
Remote authoring and administration Allows users with authoring rights to edit and author directly on the Web, and allows users with administrative rights to perform user and site management from a remote computer
Multi-user authoring All lows multiple users to edit and author the same Web site at the same time

* Note: If you create your Web site in a staging area, these special FrontPage features will not work until you publish your Web site to the Faculty Web Server (faculty.nmu.edu/yourid).
