Checking TCP/IP Settings

Checking TCP/IP Settings (MAC OS X)

To check the TCP/IP settings on MAC OS X:

  1. Click on the phone icon and choose Open Internet Connect...
  2. Click Edit.
  3. Click the TCP/IP tab, and make sure the settings look like this:
  4. Click the PPP tab, then click PPP Options.
  5. Make sure the settings look like this:
  6. Click OK.

Checking TCP/IP Settings (Windows)

To check the TCP/IP settings in Windows:

  1. Open the connection you are trying to dial.
  2. Click Properties, then click the Networking tab.
  3. Under "The connection uses the following items," select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click Properties.
  4. Make sure your settings look like this:

    Then click Advanced.

  5. Click on the General tab and make sure your settings look like this:
  6. Click on the DNS tab and make sure your settings look like this:
    1. If necessary, delete any entries in the "DNS server addresses" list.
    2. If necessary, add nmu.edu and/or acs.nmu.edu to the "Append these DNS suffixes" list.
      • Click Add.
      • Type the domain suffix (nmu.edu or acs.nmu.edu).
      • Click Add.
  7. Click on the WINS tab and make sure your settings look like this:
  8. Click OK until you return to the dial-up window.
