Checking the Modem's Response
To check the modem's response:
- Make sure your computer's volume is turned on so you can listen for modem sounds while you dial.
The volume control is in the system tray on the Windows taskbar:
- Choose Start > Control Panel > Phone and Modem Options, then click on the Modems tab.
- Select the modem name, then click Properties.
- Click on the Diagnostics tab, then click Query Modem.
- Scroll through the Command/Response list.
If you see a message about an "error" or "failure" your modem is damaged, defective, or missing. Contact the Help Desk at 227-2468.
If you see a list of commands and responses that are not errors and failures, the modem is working properly.
