Fall and Winter Semesters
The leased Notebook computer must be returned no later than the close of business on the Tuesday following commencement exercises.
Deadline Dates:
Fall 2008 Semester: Tuesday, December 16, 2008
Winter 2009 Semester: Tuesday, May 5, 2009
Summer semester
The leased Notebook Computer must be returned no later than the close of business the day grades are due.
Deadline Date:
Summer 2008: Tuesday, August 12, 2008
Example: If you are registered for classes, leave for the summer or winter break and decide not to return to NMU, the computer is due as follows.
- Registered for summer and or fall classes. Classes are dropped before the semester begins; the immediate return of the computer is required. For fall classes dropped during the summer months, late fees will begin two weeks after the classes are dropped. If the computer is being shipped and you want to avoid additional late fees while the computer is in transit, contact asset management with the tracking number of the computer package. Late fees and collections will end on the date that Asset management confirms the tracking number.
- Registered for winter classes. Classes are dropped before the semester begins; the computer is due no later than the first day of the beginning of the winter semester.
Please follow the return procedures.
Notebook Computers For Summer
Continuing students: Students attending classes in the previous winter semester that pre-register for the following fall semester by the Tuesday that grades are due for the winter semester, may continue to use the Notebook computer over the summer.
The student must pay fall semester tuition by the date indicated on the tuition bill. If tuition is not paid, the Notebook computer must be returned by the tuition due date. Late fees will begin the day after the fall tuition due date.
If tuition is not paid and the Notebook computer is not returned by the tuition deadline, NMU will begin collection procedures to recover the Notebook computer.
A student who severs his/her connection with the university must return the Notebook computer immediately. Thus, if a student drops his/her fall registration before tuition is due, the Notebook computer must be returned immediately. Student's that are in possession of the end of lease model will bring the current Notebook computer to the Dome and receive another model. (This does not include those students that purchased their Notebook computer). Distribution information will be sent via NMU email in August.
Continuing students registered for summer but not continuing in fall: Students attending classes in the previous winter semester that are pre-registered for the following summer session by the Tuesday that winter grades are due may continue to use the Notebook computer until the Tuesday in August that summer grades are due. Late fees will begin on Wednesday the day after grades are due.
If a student that took classes in the summer semester then decides to continue in the fall semester and registers for classes on or by the Tuesday in August that grades are due, may continue to use the Notebook computer. If fall tuition is not paid and the Notebook Computer is not returned by the tuition deadline, NMU will begin collection procedures to recover the Notebook Computer. The only way asset management knows you are attending is by the payment of your fall tuition.
New students registered for summer session only (not continuing in fall semester).
Computers are available for rent at the circulation desk in the Olson Library for Northern Michigan University
students attending classes ONLY during the summer semester. Call (906)227-2261 for costs and any additional information.
New students registered for summer, continuing in fall semester.
Notebook computers can be rented from the Library for the summer session for a $250 fee and the Notebook
computer must be returned to the Library by the Tuesday that grades are due in August. Student's that are
continuing for the fall semester will be issued a Notebook computer during fall distribution in the Dome.
Once the student pays their fall tuition and fees, they may obtain credit to their student account for the
$250 library rental fee by bringing their receipt to the library.
