Dial-In Policy
- DIVISION: Academic Information Services
- UNIT: Academic Computing Services
- DATE: February 2004
- PURPOSE: To define dial-in access usage
- APPLICABILITY: Faculty, Staff and Students
- POLICY:
- NMU Dial-in service is for use by students, faculty, staff, and retirees of the university.
- Your dial-in account is for your exclusive use. Under no circumstances are you to give your account and password to others.
- A two-hour connect time per dial-up connection is enforced during the hours of 8 PM and 11:30 PM. Checking is done every 15 minutes beginning at 8 PM and continuing until 11:30 PM. If a user has exceeded 2 hours during this time period they are automatically disconnected. At this point, there is no limitation on the number of times per day that a user can connect via our dial-in service.
- There are no time limitations from 11:30 PM to 8 PM the following day.
- An idle timeout of 20 minutes has been established. Accounts will automatically be disconnected if no activity has taken place in this time period.
- No user may establish more than one connection from the same account. The account is automatically disconnected if multiple connections are attempted.
- Users attempting to establish multiple connections will automatically have their local and state-wide dial-in access disabled. Additionally, computer registration and software download access will be disabled. It will be necessary to visit or contact the Help Desk, located in the LRC, to have this access re-enabled.
